Explanation

I know there is disagreement over the cancelation of our services.  I wanted to explain the thinking behind our decision.  You still might not agree but hopefully you will understand.  I’m going to compare two statements:  I am a Christian and I will go wherever I want because I am not afraid.  That sounds like a courageous person of faith.  Statement number two:  I am a Christian and I will go wherever I want because I don’t care who I infect with the virus.  That isn’t faith, that is selfishness.  You see 20% of the people who have the virus have no symptoms.  Which means you could be running around thinking you are perfectly healthy and infecting others who won’t be so fortunate.

If you want to know what I think - I personally believe this has been blown out of proportion.  However, it isn’t about me.  My concern is the witness of the Church in times of crisis.  I don’t think we want to send the message to the world that we don’t care about anyone else, we are going to do what we want.  I know there are others who see it differently and I respect that.  I’m just trying to explain our thinking.  Remember two things:  1. This is only temporary.  2.  The church isn’t a building, it is people and people can gather in homes as much as they want.

I will share this again before my sermon this week which I will post sometime tomorrow.
